Coach Kapis takes over as the new head coach of San Jose City College Volleyball previously serving as lead training coach under long time Head Coach Sam Huerta.

Coach Kapis is in his 12th year of coaching women’s volleyball and has been a staple within the Bay Area as both a high school, and club coach. Co-Founder of Club Yahoo! His 2002 17’s club team finished tied for 5th in the Junior National Open Division, and from that team he had nine players continue on to play Division I Volleyball, seven of which received full scholarships. In his eight years of coaching club volleyball in the San Jose area he has taken a team to Junior Nationals each of those years.

Over the past six years Kapis has been heavily involved within USA Volleyball, working under current Head Coach of the National Team Toshi Yoshida.    Kapis has served as Co-Head Coach of Developmental Camps, A2 Junior National, and Youth National Team, assistant coach for the High Performance National Team, and most notable being an apprentice coach for the Youth National Team in 2003.

Kapis also has coached at the Division I ranks serving as a volunteer assistant coach for UCLA in 2001, and more locally San Jose State in 2000, and is also currently the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at perennial powerhouse Archbishop Mitty High School.

Before UCLA, and San Jose State he served as assistant varsity volleyball coach at Archbishop Mitty High School, which went to the State Championship Game in 1997, along with a Northern California final appearance, and a Nor. California Semi-Final appearance.

He is a graduate of San Francisco State University, and more recently received his Masters Degree from St. Mary’s in Health, Physical Education, and Sports Administration in 2001.

At San Jose City, Kapis’ goal is to make the complete athlete.  Teaching his players “Life Lessons”, and to teach the players to be balanced young adults, being fundamentally sound, as well as being very competitive.    Raised in Aptos, CA, Kapis balances the demands of coaching year round volleyball with mountain biking, skiing, weight lifting, and probably his favorite activity of going to San Francisco Giants games.  Kapis is thirty-three years old, single, and currently lives in San Jose.
